TRAVEL TO RHODES

Rhodes is one of the most accessible and well-connected islands in Greece, featuring an international airport with frequent domestic and direct European flights, as well as regular sea connections.

 

1. Arriving by Air

Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras" (IATA: RHO) is located on the northwestern coast of the island, approximately 15 km southwest of Rhodes Town and our conference venue (Mediterranean Hotel).

Domestic Connections: Multiple daily flights connect Athens International Airport (ATH) and Thessaloniki (SKG) to Rhodes, operated mainly by Aegean Airlines / Olympic Air and Sky Express. The flight time from Athens is approximately 50 minutes.

Direct International Flights: During the conference season, numerous direct scheduled and seasonal flights operate between Rhodes and major European cities and hubs.

 

2. Arriving by Sea (Ferry)

Rhodes Main Port (Acandia / Tourist Port) is located in Rhodes Town, just 2 km from the Mediterranean Hotel.

From Athens (Piraeus): Regular ferry services connect the Port of Piraeus (Athens) to Rhodes, operated by Blue Star Ferries. The ferry ride takes between 12 and 15 hours depending on the schedule and stops.

Inter-Island Connections: Daily hydrofoils and ferries connect Rhodes with neighboring Dodecanese islands (such as Symi, Kos, and Patmos) as well as nearby international ports (e.g., Marmaris, Turkey).

 

3. Getting from Diagoras Airport to the Venue

 

By Taxi

Taxis are available 24/7 directly outside the airport arrivals terminal.

Travel Time: Approx. 20–25 minutes to the Mediterranean Hotel / Rhodes Town.

Estimated Fare: Around €30 – €35.

 

By Public Bus (DES RODA)

Public buses operated by DES RODA connect the airport with the Central Bus Station in Rhodes Town (Mandraki / Averof Street).

Bus Stop: Located right outside the airport terminal.

Travel Time: Approx. 30–40 minutes.

Tickets: Can be purchased directly from the driver (cash recommended) or at the airport bus kiosk.

From Central Bus Station to Venue: The central bus stop in Rhodes Town is approximately 1.2 km from the Mediterranean Hotel (a 15-minute walk along the Mandraki promenade or a 3-minute taxi ride).

 

Car Rental

Major car rental companies (Avis, Hertz, Sixt, Enterprise, etc.) as well as regional operators have offices inside the airport terminal.

 

4. Practical Travel Information

Entry & Visa Requirements: Greece is a member of the European Union and the Schengen Area. EU/EEA citizens need only a valid Passport or National ID card. Non-EU/EEA participants are advised to check Schengen Visa requirements with their local Greek Embassy or Consulate well in advance.

Currency: Euro (€). Major credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and shops. ATMs are available at the airport, near the conference venue, and throughout Rhodes Town.

Time Zone: Eastern European Summer Time (EEST) – GMT+3 / UTC+3 in June.

Electricity: 230 V, 50 Hz, Standard European C and F plug sockets.
